Tue Oct 15 13:10:00 UTC 2024: ## West Indies Dominate Sri Lanka in Thrilling T20 Opener

**Dambulla, Sri Lanka:** The West Indies roared to victory in the first T20 International against Sri Lanka, securing a comfortable five-wicket win at the Dambulla International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

A blistering opening partnership between Brandon King and Evin Lewis, who both smashed half-centuries, propelled the West Indies to a chase of 180 runs with five balls to spare.

King, returning to the team after an injury during the T20 World Cup, showcased his aggressive prowess, smashing 63 runs off just 33 balls, including 11 fours and a six. He received valuable support from Lewis, who contributed 50 runs from 28 deliveries, featuring five fours and four sixes.

The Windies bowlers had earlier restricted Sri Lanka to 179/7, despite a threatening partnership between captain Charith Asalanka (59) and Kamindu Mendis (51). Romario Shepherd and Shamar Joseph were key in the early wickets, while disciplined death bowling from the Caribbean side ensured Sri Lanka couldn’t reach a higher total.

“It was a great partnership between me and Evin,” said Player of the Match, Brandon King. “We came together with a plan to attack and it worked.”

The series continues on Tuesday at the same venue, with the West Indies looking to capitalize on their strong start.
