**Colombo, Sri Lanka** – Sri Lankan batsman Kamindu Mendis has continued his impressive run in international cricket, being named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for September 2024. This marks his second monthly award this year, making him the first Sri Lankan and only the second player ever to achieve this feat.
Mendis, who has taken the cricketing world by storm with several milestones throughout the year, played a pivotal role in Sri Lanka’s Test victories against England and New Zealand. He scored two centuries and a half-century in the four Tests played in September, including a crucial innings in the series-clinching win against England at The Oval.
“I am honored to be once again chosen as the ICC Men’s Player of the Month,” Mendis said, expressing his delight and pride. “This recognition gives me further strength to continue my good work on the cricketing field and aspire for bigger achievements.”
In addition to his Player of the Month accolades, Mendis recently became the first player in Test cricket history to score fifty-plus runs in each of his first eight Test matches. He also became the joint second-fastest player to reach 1000 Test runs.
Meanwhile, on the women’s side, England’s Tammy Beaumont was awarded the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for September. Her impressive performance in the white-ball series against Ireland, including a century and a half-century, secured her the recognition.
