Tue Oct 15 13:22:01 UTC 2024: ## Mumbai Indians Appoint Mahela Jayawardene as Head Coach, Paras Mhambrey Returns to Franchise
**Mumbai, India** – In a significant move, the Mumbai Indians have announced the return of former captain Mahela Jayawardene as head coach, replacing Mark Boucher. Jayawardene, who previously served as head coach from 2017 to 2021, will be returning to the franchise after overseeing the global expansion of MI teams across different leagues.
Boucher, who took over from Jayawardene in 2022, will be relocated to another team within the MI family, potentially in IL T20, SA20 or MI NY.
Jayawardene expressed his excitement about returning to the MI family and building upon the franchise’s vision, stating, “My journey within the MI family has always been one of evolution… to return and further strengthen the love of MI, build on the vision of the owners, and continue to add to the history of Mumbai Indians, is an exciting challenge I am looking forward to.”
Joining Jayawardene in the MI camp is Paras Mhambrey, former bowling coach of the Indian national team under Rahul Dravid. Mhambrey previously worked with the Mumbai Indians before his stint with the BCCI. His return adds further depth to the coaching staff, which already includes Lasith Malinga as a bowling coach.
While the BCCI is considering Singapore as a potential location for the upcoming IPL auction, no confirmation has been given on the final venue. Franchises are hoping to be informed soon about the venue to allow for visa and travel arrangements for their representatives.
