Tue Oct 15 14:24:21 UTC 2024: ## Bangladesh Head Coach Sacked After Assault Allegation and Contract Violations

**Dhaka, Bangladesh:** Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has suspended head coach Chandika Hathurusinghe for 48 hours and will terminate his contract upon his return, citing disciplinary grounds. The move comes after allegations of assault on a player during the 2023 ODI World Cup.

According to BCB President Faruque Ahmed, Hathurusinghe faces two counts of misconduct: assault on a player and excessive leave taking, exceeding his contractual allowance. The BCB initiated an investigation following the player’s accusation and has served Hathurusinghe with a show-cause notice.

The former Sri Lankan all-rounder, who had a previous stint as Bangladesh head coach, returned to the position in February 2022. His second tenure saw a mixed bag of results, including a historic 2-0 Test series victory against Pakistan, but also a disappointing World Cup performance and subsequent whitewash against India in both Test and T20I series.

Hathurusinghe’s contract was scheduled to expire after the 2025 Champions Trophy. However, his sudden termination leaves Bangladesh in search of a new head coach. Former West Indies all-rounder Phil Simmons has been appointed as an interim replacement and will lead the team until the Champions Trophy in February.
