Mon Oct 14 18:41:43 UTC 2024: ## India Expels Six Canadian Diplomats Amidst Diplomatic Row

**NEW DELHI, INDIA -** In a dramatic escalation of the ongoing diplomatic dispute with Canada, the Indian government has expelled six Canadian diplomats, ordering them to leave the country by 11:59 pm on Saturday, October 19, 2024. The move comes in response to Canada’s investigation into the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, with accusations that the diplomats were involved.

In addition to the expulsions, India has recalled its High Commissioner and other diplomatic staff from Canada, citing concerns about their safety and security. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) expressed its displeasure with Canada’s actions, stating that they had “unjustifiably targeted” Indian diplomats.

The MEA summoned the Canadian Charge d’ Affaires on Saturday, delivering a strong message: “We have no confidence in the commitment of the current Canadian government to ensure their safety,” the MEA stated. “The Trudeau government’s actions in fostering an environment of extremism and violence have put their security at risk.”

The MEA statement further declared that India reserves the right to take further action in response to Canada’s support of “extremism, violence, and separatism” against India.

The six Canadian diplomats expelled include Acting High Commissioner Stewart Ross Wheeler, Deputy High Commissioner Patrick Hebert, First Secretary Marie Catherine Jolie, First Secretary Lan Ross David Triets, First Secretary Adam James Chuipaka, and First Secretary Paula Orjuela.

This latest development marks a significant deterioration in relations between the two nations, adding fuel to an already volatile situation. The expulsion of diplomats and the recall of India’s staff signify a deep mistrust and a potential escalation of the diplomatic conflict.
