Mon Oct 14 22:24:36 UTC 2024: ## Kottayam: KUDUMBA SHREE Women to Receive Drone Training for Agricultural Advancement

**Kottayam, October 15, 2024** – A state-level workshop focusing on drone applications in agriculture will be held at the MG University in Kottayam on Tuesday, October 15th, 2024, starting at 10 am. The workshop, organized jointly by the Kudumbashree Mission and the MG University’s School of Environmental Sciences, aims to equip Kudumbashree women with the latest technology for enhanced agricultural productivity.

Prof. Dr. Beena Mathew, Vice Chancellor in charge, will inaugurate the workshop. The session will cover the functionality, maintenance, and troubleshooting of drones along with practical demonstrations in the field.

Kudumbashree is actively implementing various initiatives to boost the income of women by leveraging technology in the agricultural sector. This workshop marks the first phase of providing scientific and technical training to Kudumbashree members. Drones will be utilized for tasks such as seeding, fertilizer application, and crop monitoring, saving time and reducing manual labor.

This initiative aligns with the “Namo Didi Drone Yojana” of the Central Government. 49 selected Kudumbashree farmers across various districts have already received drone training and licenses under the scheme. These individuals have been provided with drones capable of carrying 10 liters and flying up to 400 feet. They also underwent a four-day training program at the Central Tuber Crops Research Institute in Thiruvananthapuram.

The workshop will see participation from 100 individuals, including “Drone Didis” from various districts and members of the Mechanized Training Team. Dr. Mahesh Mohan, Director of the School of Environmental Sciences, will preside over the event. Dr. S. Shanawas, State Program Officer of Kudumbashree, will deliver a detailed project presentation.

Several other prominent figures, including Abhilash K. Divakar (District Coordinator, Kudumbashree Mission), Prakash B. Nair (Assistant Coordinator), Rmya Rajappan and Hanimal Raju (State Assistant Program Managers), Anoop Chandran (District Program Manager), Prof. Dr. K.R. Baiju and Dr. Ebin Varghese from the School of Environmental Sciences, and Shebeena Nisar, Chairperson of the Athirampuzha CDS, are expected to address the gathering.
