Mon Oct 14 13:45:28 UTC 2024: ## Sinner Stuns Djokovic to Claim Shanghai Masters Title

**SHANGHAI, CHINA** – Jannik Sinner of Italy dominated Novak Djokovic in straight sets to win the Shanghai Masters on Sunday, securing his seventh title of the year and a career-defining victory.

The 23-year-old Italian, currently ranked number one in the world, defeated the 24-time Grand Slam champion 7-6 (4), 6-3 in a match that lasted just over an hour and a half. Sinner played flawlessly, never facing a break point and showcasing impressive power with eight aces and 22 winners.

Djokovic, despite aiming for his 100th career title and a fifth Shanghai Masters win, struggled to match Sinner’s intensity. He managed just four aces and 12 winners, highlighting the Italian’s dominance.

“It was a very tough match, obviously, playing against Novak is one of the toughest challenges we have,” Sinner said. “He doesn’t have any weaknesses, you have to take advantage of the small chances he gives you.”

The victory came after Sinner’s recent loss in the China Open final to Carlos Alcaraz, who watched the final from the stands. Sinner’s impressive performance reinforces his standing as a dominant force on hard courts, with an 8-2 record against top-5 opponents this year.

Djokovic, playing in China for the first time in five years, acknowledged Sinner’s exceptional play. “I think I played some really good tennis, but congratulations to Jannik,” he said. “He was just too good today. Too strong, too fast, well done. You’re having an incredible year. You deserve this.”

This victory marks Sinner’s first win over Djokovic since the Australian Open semifinals earlier this year. The two players now stand even in their head-to-head record at four wins apiece.

Meanwhile, Aryna Sabalenka continued her reign in Wuhan, winning the Wuhan Open for a third consecutive year. The second-ranked Belarusian defeated Zheng Qinwen 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 in the final, securing her fourth title of the season, which includes the Australian and US Opens.
