Mon Oct 14 03:40:00 UTC 2024: ## Chiefs’ Offensive Line Still Has Questions Despite Strong Start

**Kansas City, MO** – While the Kansas City Chiefs have made a habit of investing in their offensive line in recent drafts, the team’s protection for star quarterback Patrick Mahomes still has some weaknesses. The left tackle position in particular is uncertain, with rookie Kingsley Suamataia already being benched in favor of Wanya Morris.

However, a recent 2025 NFL mock draft seems more concerned with the right side of the line. Sporting News’ Vinnie Iyer predicts that the Chiefs will draft LSU’s Emery Jones in the first round, citing Jawaan Taylor’s penalty issues and the potential departure of Trey Smith.

This prediction is largely illogical, however. Taylor has been solid in pass protection this year, and his hefty contract makes it highly unlikely he will be cut anytime soon. Additionally, while Smith is a valuable asset, his future with the Chiefs remains uncertain, making it premature to project a replacement.

While Jones is a strong prospect with a lot of potential, he’s not without his weaknesses. His lack of experience on an island and against speed rushers, along with questionable balance, make him a less than ideal pick for the Chiefs.

In reality, the Chiefs’ offensive line is in a much better position than the mock draft suggests. While the left tackle situation needs further clarification, the team is likely to stick with Taylor at right tackle and will explore their options for Smith’s potential departure in the off-season.
