Sun Oct 13 19:50:48 UTC 2024: ## India’s T20 World Cup Hopes Hang by a Thread After Narrow Loss to Australia

**Sharjah, UAE:** The Indian Women’s Cricket Team suffered a heart-breaking 9-run defeat against Australia in a thrilling encounter at the Women’s T20 World Cup on Sunday. Despite a valiant knock from captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who remained unbeaten on 54 runs, India fell short of the target of 153 set by the Australians.

With the loss, India’s qualification for the semi-finals now depends on the outcome of the final group stage match between New Zealand and Pakistan.

Australia, having won all their four matches, has already secured their place in the semi-finals. India, with 4 points and a net run rate of +0.322, currently sits second in the group. New Zealand, also with 4 points but a lower net run rate of +0.282, is in third place.

If New Zealand wins their match against Pakistan, they will qualify for the semi-finals, eliminating both India and Pakistan.

However, if Pakistan manages to upset New Zealand, India will be in contention for the final semi-final spot. In that scenario, India’s fate will hinge on their net run rate compared to New Zealand’s.

India made one change to their playing XI for the match, bringing back Pooja Vastrakar in place of Sajevani Sajna. The Australian team, meanwhile, was missing captain Alyssa Healy due to injury, with Tahlia McGrath leading the side.

Despite the loss, India will hope for a favorable outcome in the final group stage match, keeping their semi-final hopes alive.
