Mon Oct 14 04:41:20 UTC 2024: ## India’s World Cup Hopes Hang by a Thread After Loss to Australia

India’s Women’s T20 World Cup dreams are hanging by a thread after a heartbreaking nine-run loss to defending champions Australia on Sunday. Despite a valiant effort, India’s hopes now rest on Pakistan defeating New Zealand on Monday.

Australia, who secured their semi-final spot with a perfect four wins from four matches, defeated India despite the absence of their captain, Alyssa Healy, who sustained a foot injury during their previous match.

India, needing a win to secure a place in the semi-finals, fought hard with Harmanpreet Kaur leading the charge with an unbeaten 54 runs. However, they fell short of the target, losing by nine runs.

Pakistan, despite their own loss to Australia, still have a chance to advance to the semi-finals. A victory against New Zealand, combined with a strong run-rate, could see them secure a place in the last four.

Meanwhile, England remain on track for a semi-final spot after a dominant 10-wicket victory over Scotland. England’s openers, Maia Bouchier and Danni Wyatt-Hodge, put on an unbeaten century partnership, securing a third successive win and placing them top of Group B.

The West Indies, however, will need to win their match against England on Tuesday to stay in contention for the semi-finals.
