Sharjah, UAE: Deepti Sharma etched her name in the history books during India’s nail-biting clash against Australia in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. The all-rounder put in an impressive performance, taking two wickets while bowling first and then scoring a fighting 29 runs as India fell short by 9 runs while chasing a challenging 152-run target.

Deepti’s two crucial wickets included dismissing Grace Harris and Ellyse Perry, the latter coming in the 19th over and achieving a historic feat. The 27-year-old spinner tied with New Zealand captain Sophie Devine for the most T20I wickets against Australia. Deepti now boasts an incredible record of 29 wickets in just 22 T20I innings against Australia, averaging 20.13 and maintaining an economy rate of 7.19.

Meanwhile, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur led the chase with a valiant 54* off 47 balls, smashing a couple of major records in the process.
