Mon Oct 14 06:15:21 UTC 2024: ## Alia Bhatt’s “Jigra” Stumbles at the Box Office, Falling Short of Expectations
**Mumbai, India** – Alia Bhatt’s latest film, “Jigra,” has faced a disappointing opening weekend, registering the worst opening for the actress in a decade. Despite a slight increase in earnings on the second day, attributed to the Dusshera holiday, the action-thriller has struggled to gain momentum.
According to box office tracker Sacnilk.com, “Jigra” earned a meager ₹5.65 crore on its third day, bringing its total weekend collection to ₹16.75 crore. This pales in comparison to Bhatt’s previous releases like “Gangubai Kathiawadi,” “Raazi,” and “Udta Punjab,” all of which enjoyed considerably stronger openings.
“Jigra,” directed by Vasan Bala and co-produced by Alia’s Eternal Sunshine Productions and Dharma Productions, has also been overshadowed by Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri’s “Vicky Aur Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video,” which opened with a stronger ₹5.5 crore and has currently collected ₹17.84 crore.
The film’s underwhelming performance has sparked concerns about Bhatt’s box office appeal, especially following the impressive opening weekend of her previous release, “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani,” which grossed ₹19 crore.
Adding to the drama, actress Divya Khossla Kumar publicly claimed that Bhatt misrepresented the film’s success. Though Bhatt has yet to respond, Karan Johar, who also produced “Jigra,” took to Instagram to address the controversy, posting, “Silence is the best speech you will ever give to fools.”
“Jigra” tells the story of Satya Anand (Alia Bhatt), a woman on a mission to save her brother Ankur (Vedang Raina), who is imprisoned in a foreign jail and sentenced to death. The film also stars Manoj Pahwa and Rahul Ravindran in prominent roles.
