**Mumbai, India:** Baba Siddique, a prominent politician and well-known figure in the Bollywood scene, was fatally shot in Mumbai’s Bandra on Saturday. The 66-year-old, who was known for his lavish lifestyle and philanthropic work, was attacked by three assailants while leaving his office with his son, Zishan Siddique.
Siddique, who began his political journey with the Congress party and later joined the NCP under Ajit Pawar’s faction, was rushed to the hospital after sustaining gunshot wounds. Despite medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries.
The incident has shocked the city, with condolences pouring in from various sectors. Siddique’s influence extended from the political corridors to Bollywood, with his extravagant Iftar parties attracting prominent film stars.
Known for his opulent lifestyle, Siddique had declared assets worth ₹76 crore in his 2014 Lok Sabha election affidavit. However, his actual wealth is believed to be considerably higher. In 2018, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) seized 33 luxury apartments linked to him and Pyramid Developers, valued at approximately ₹462 crore.
According to his election affidavit, Siddique held assets worth ₹76.25 crore, including ₹3 crore in bank accounts and ₹45 lakh invested in shares. He also owned a ₹72 lakh LIC policy and luxury vehicles, including two Mercedes Benz cars valued at ₹1.15 crore.
Siddique’s lavish lifestyle was evident in his declared possessions, including gold and silver jewelry worth ₹6 crore and multiple properties, including a commercial building in Bandra West valued at ₹4 crore, two residential properties worth over ₹18 crore, and other properties owned by his wife.
The motive behind the attack is yet to be ascertained, and police investigations are ongoing. The incident has raised concerns about the security of politicians and the increasing incidents of violence in the city.
