**New Delhi, October 12, 2023:** The much-anticipated Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) has seen a surge in interest from companies, with over 90,000 internship opportunities already posted on the scheme’s portal as of October 11. The scheme, which aims to provide skilling and enhance employability for youth aged 21 to 24, has received a strong response from corporates, with top names like Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Consultancy Services, and Reliance Industries offering internships.

The window for youth registration opened on Saturday, with opportunities currently available across 737 districts in 37 states and union territories. The top five states in terms of internship offerings are Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh.

The government is aiming to provide 1.25 lakh internships by December 2, part of a pilot project for the scheme, which ultimately aims to offer 1 crore internships over five years. The scheme offers a monthly allowance of ₹5000 and a one-time grant of ₹6000.

The Corporate Affairs Ministry (MCA), which is administering the PMIS, has also mandated that internship aspirants must possess an Aadhaar number or undergo Aadhaar authentication. The portal, managed by the Bhaskaracharya Institute for Space Applications and Geoinformatics (BISAG), opened on October 3 for companies to post internship opportunities.

The government has allocated ₹800 crore for the pilot scheme, which is part of its wider effort to promote job creation and skilling among youth. The scheme has been met with enthusiasm from corporates, with the number of internship opportunities posted surging from around 16,000 on October 7 to over 90,000 by October 11.

Candidates can register themselves on the portal at pminternship.mca.gov.in. The application process will run from October 12 to October 25, followed by candidate shortlisting using Artificial Intelligence (AI) on October 26. Companies will review and select candidates between October 27 and November 7, with candidates receiving their internship offers between November 8 and 15.
