**Los Angeles, CA** – Actor Jason Segel, known for his role as Marshall Eriksen on “How I Met Your Mother,” has revealed his motivation for casting Brett Goldstein in a surprisingly dark role in the upcoming season of his Apple TV+ series “Shrinking.”

Segel, who understands the challenges of being typecast, wanted to help Goldstein break free from his beloved “Ted Lasso” character, Roy Kent. “I have a lot of experience being Marshall Eriksen and then working to have people see me as other characters,” Segel explained at the season 2 premiere of “Shrinking.” “I just wanted to be the voice to say, ‘No, do something totally different. Let’s break that now.'”

Segel, recognizing Goldstein’s talent and desire to explore new roles, believes the “Ted Lasso” star will “kill it” in his new, unexpected part. “I knew secretly that he wanted to play that part and I knew he would kill it,” Segel said.

Goldstein, who is also a writer and co-creator on “Ted Lasso,” has been closely involved with “Shrinking” from the beginning.

“Shrinking” season 2 premieres on Apple TV+ on October 16th.
