Sun Oct 13 18:09:57 UTC 2024: ## Climate Activist Sonam Wangchuk Detained in Delhi for Ladakh Protest
**New Delhi, October 13, 2024:** Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk and 20 other protesters were detained by Delhi Police on Sunday after they staged a sit-in outside the Ladakh Bhawan in the capital.
The protesters, who had been on a fast with Wangchuk, were taken to the Mandir Marg police station. They had been demanding the inclusion of Ladakh in the sixth schedule of the Constitution, which grants autonomy to tribal areas in the Northeast.
Heavy police deployment was present to maintain order. While some protesters argued they were sitting peacefully, a senior police officer stated that no permission was granted for the sit-in.
“They have filed an application to hold a protest at the Jantar Mantar, and this is under consideration. They are not allowed to protest at any other site,” the officer explained.
Wangchuk and his supporters had marched from Leh to Delhi, previously being detained at the Singhu border on September 30 before being released on October 2. They are seeking a meeting with top leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Their demands include statehood for Ladakh, a public service commission, and separate Lok Sabha seats for the districts of Leh and Kargil.
