**Kavaraippettai, Tamil Nadu** – A Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express train collided with a stationary goods train on Friday evening at Kavaraipettai Railway Station in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvallur district, resulting in the derailment of 12 coaches. While 19 passengers sustained injuries, thankfully, no fatalities have been reported.

The accident, which occurred around 8:30 pm on the Chennai-Gudur section, has prompted investigations into a suspected signal failure. According to railway officials, the express train, cleared to pass through the main line, mistakenly entered the loop line where the goods train was stationed.

Immediate rescue and relief efforts were initiated, and all passengers have been evacuated from the affected coaches. The injured have been transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The accident has caused disruptions to train services on the affected lines. Track restoration work is underway, with officials from Southern Railway, Principal Heads of Departments, and other railways at the site. The UP line and UP Loop line are expected to be restored by Saturday night, while the other two lines are expected to be restored by early Sunday morning.

Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin has criticized the Centre, calling for immediate action to prevent such accidents. The Union Government has ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident, while the Commissioner of Railway Safety, Southern Circle, Bengaluru, A M Chowdhary, has conducted a statutory inspection of the accident site.

The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has also weighed in, expressing concern over the lack of lessons learned from past train accidents. He has called for accountability from the top.

The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing, with authorities examining a range of factors, including potential signal failures and sabotage.
