**KOLKATA, INDIA** – A third junior doctor participating in a hunger strike demanding justice for a fellow medic, who was raped and murdered at R.G. Kar Medical College, has been hospitalized after his health deteriorated.
Anustup Mukherjee, a junior doctor at Medical College, Kolkata, was rushed to the hospital on Saturday evening after experiencing severe stomach pain and blood in his stool. His condition is reportedly serious.
This follows the hospitalization of two other striking doctors, Alok Varma and Aniket Mahato, who have been on an indefinite fast since October 5th. The protesting doctors are demanding justice for the deceased woman medic and the immediate removal of Health Secretary N.S. Nigam. They are also calling for a centralized referral system, a bed vacancy monitoring system, and task forces to ensure security measures at medical facilities.
The protesting doctors claim that the government is responsible for the illnesses of the fasting doctors and have urged the government to consider their demands.
