**Mumbai, India** – Reliance’s streaming platform JioCinema has achieved a significant milestone, exceeding 1.6 crore paid subscribers by the end of September 2024. This surge in subscribers is attributed to the platform’s aggressive pricing strategy and an expanding content library.
The platform reported a remarkable 2X quarter-on-quarter growth in paid subscribers during the second quarter of the fiscal year 2024-25. JioCinema’s success can be largely attributed to its low-cost plans, starting at INR 29 per month, which undercuts competitors like Zee5, SonyLiv, and Disney+ Hotstar.
JioCinema has attracted new users with its diverse content offerings, including popular digital-first reality shows and extensive coverage of events like the 2024 Paris Olympics. The platform’s viewers are engaging with the content for over 50 minutes daily, demonstrating the platform’s appeal.
JioCinema’s growth is also fueled by its strategic partnerships, including a joint venture with Viacom18 and The Walt Disney Company. This $8.5 billion merger aims to create a media powerhouse encompassing 117 TV channels and reaching a combined audience of 75 crore viewers. The merger will integrate both JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar, strengthening their competitive edge in the market.
With a strong operational scale-up over the past two years, including rights to broadcast the Indian Premier League (IPL) and collaborations with American studios like HBO and NBCUniversal, JioCinema is poised for continued growth in the competitive streaming landscape.
