Sun Oct 13 09:01:17 UTC 2024: ## JioCinema Surpasses 16 Million Paid Subscribers, Driven by Affordable Plans and Expanded Content
**Mumbai, India -** Reliance-owned streaming platform JioCinema has announced a significant milestone, exceeding 16 million paid subscribers at the end of September 2024. The platform witnessed a remarkable 2X quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) growth in subscriber base during Q2 FY25, primarily attributed to its affordable monthly subscription plans starting at INR 29 and a continuously expanding content catalogue.
Network18, the company behind JioCinema, highlighted the impact of digital-first reality shows and an extensive international content library in driving user acquisition. The platform’s comprehensive coverage of the Paris Olympics 2024, coupled with growing interest in non-cricket sports, resulted in an average daily engagement of over 50 minutes per user.
This surge in subscriber growth comes as Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), Viacom 18, and The Walt Disney Company are nearing the completion of their $8.5 billion joint venture. The merger will create a media behemoth encompassing 117 TV channels and a combined viewership of 75 crore viewers.
JioCinema has strategically strengthened its position in the OTT space over the past two years, securing rights to broadcast the Indian Premier League (IPL) and partnering with major American studios like HBO and NBCUniversal.
The platform’s success demonstrates the growing demand for affordable and diverse content in India’s rapidly evolving streaming landscape. With the upcoming merger, JioCinema is poised to further solidify its presence as a leading player in the country’s digital entertainment sector.
