**Hyderabad, India** – G.N. Saibaba, a former English professor at Delhi University’s Ram Lal Anand College, passed away on Saturday evening at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital in Hyderabad. He was 57.
Saibaba suffered a cardiac arrest and was declared dead at 8:30 PM. He had been hospitalized at NIMS for the past 10 days due to ill health. He underwent surgery to remove his gall bladder and was battling an infection.
Saibaba was acquitted in March 2024 by the Bombay High Court in a case alleging Maoist links. He was released from Nagpur jail on March 7th after spending nearly 9 years in detention.
He was suspended from his position at Delhi University in 2014 following his arrest by the Maharashtra police on suspicion of ties to Maoist groups.
Saibaba’s death is a significant loss to the academic community and has sparked widespread condolences.
