**Guwahati, Assam:** An earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale struck Assam early Sunday morning, causing tremors felt across the state, including the capital city of Guwahati.

The National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported the earthquake occurred at 7:47 AM, originating 15 kilometers below the earth’s surface in Udalguri district. Tremors were felt in several regions, including Dhekiajuli, Tawang, Barpeta, Goalpara, North Lakhimpur, Itanagar, Jorhat, Tezpur, Golaghat, Nagaon, and Dimapur.

Fortunately, no reports of casualties or damage to property have been received as of this report.

Assam, along with other Northeastern states, falls in the high seismic zone, making earthquakes a frequent occurrence. This event follows two previous earthquakes in the region, a 4.3 magnitude quake on September 26th and a 3.6 magnitude quake on September 1st.

According to seismologists, the region experiences frequent earthquakes due to its location in the seismic V zone, the most active region in India’s seismic zoning map. Assam has previously experienced two major earthquakes in 1897 and 1950.
