Sun Oct 13 11:05:52 UTC 2024: ## RSS Chief’s Call for Harmony Contradicts BJP Government’s Actions, Says Sibal

**New Delhi, October 13, 2024:** Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal has criticized the disconnect between the call for societal harmony made by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat in his Vijayadashami address and the actions of the BJP-led government, which enjoys the Hindutva outfit’s support.

Speaking to the press on Sunday, Sibal welcomed Bhagwat’s statement advocating for unity among different religions and languages in India, citing the example of Saint Valmiki’s contribution to Hinduism. However, he questioned why the RSS remains silent on divisive issues like “love jihad” and “flood jihad,” and why it does not condemn attacks on minorities and instances of communal violence.

“There have been many divisions in society after 2014,” Sibal said, highlighting the targeting of minorities and the use of bulldozers in certain incidents. He pointed to the recent murder of NCP leader Baba Siddiqui in Maharashtra and controversial statements made by the Assam Chief Minister, questioning why the RSS remains silent on such matters.

“There is a complete disconnect between Bhagwat’s remarks and what the government does,” Sibal asserted, calling for the government to ensure the safety of minorities and those facing discrimination.

Bhagwat, in his Vijayadashami address, had emphasized the importance of national unity and criticized “cultural Marxists” and “woke people” for undermining education and promoting conflict. However, Sibal’s remarks highlight the perceived gap between the RSS’ rhetoric and the reality on the ground.
