**Washington, D.C.** – The Washington Commanders have released quarterback Sam Hartman from their 53-man roster, opting to keep backup Marcus Mariota active following his recovery from injury.

Hartman, 25, signed with the Commanders as an undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame this spring. He initially joined the practice squad but was promoted to the main roster when Mariota sustained an injury.

With Mariota’s return, the Commanders now have three quarterbacks on their roster: starter Jayden Daniels, Mariota, and Jeff Driskel.

Hartman is expected to be eligible for Washington’s practice squad if he clears waivers.
