**Chennai, India:** A passenger train collided with a stationary goods train near Kavarappettai in Tamil Nadu on Friday evening, derailing six coaches and injuring several passengers.
The incident occurred around 8:30 PM when the Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express, traveling at 75 km/h, crashed into the goods train at Kavarappettai railway station, located about 46 km from Chennai. The impact caused a fire to break out in the parcel van of the express train, which was quickly extinguished by fire brigade personnel.
Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin visited the injured passengers at the Government Stanley Medical College Hospital in Chennai. He expressed concern and assured the public that the government is working swiftly on rescue and relief efforts.
Railway officials confirmed that all injured passengers have been transported to nearby hospitals for treatment and that no casualties have been reported so far. More than 90% of the passengers have been evacuated from the accident site, and the railway is providing food and travel arrangements for those needing to return home.
The cause of the accident is currently under investigation. Railway officials have launched an inquiry and are working to restore train movement in both directions.
