Sun Oct 13 15:30:00 UTC 2024: ## Carsley Hopes to Return to U21s After England Interim Stint

**LONDON** – England’s interim manager Lee Carsley has expressed hope of returning to his role as U21s coach should he not be offered the permanent position with the senior team. Carsley, who has managed the under-21s since 2021 and led them to the European U21 Championship title last year, is currently overseeing England’s September Nations League fixtures.

While Carsley has received praise for his initial victories over Ireland and Finland, a shock defeat to Greece at Wembley has brought about some criticism. Despite this, the 50-year-old remains positive about the team’s potential and has emphasized that he did not formally apply for the permanent role.

“I’m really happy doing my job, but I’m an employee of the Football Association (FA), and I was asked to take the senior team, which is a privilege,” Carsley told talkSPORT. “It was the proudest moment of my career so far. Really honored with the chance to manage the senior team, I’m in a really fortunate position.”

Carsley acknowledged the significant opportunity presented by the England job, stating, “It’s one of the best jobs in world football, there’s not many jobs where you’ve got a chance of winning…the coach that comes in has got a really good chance of winning and we deserve the best one that’s out there.”

England, currently second in their Nations League group, face Finland later today.
