Sun Oct 13 04:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Boise State Running Back Ashton Jeanty Aims for Heisman Glory, Breaking Running Back Drought

Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty has emerged as a frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy, aiming to become the first running back to win the award since Derrick Henry in 2015.

“It would mean a lot, you know, not just for me, but I think for the position of running backs,” Jeanty told ESPN’s SportsCenter. “And then just the award itself, you know, cause lately it’s been a, you know, Power-5 quarterback award, but just shedding light that no matter where you’re at if you’re a talented player you will be recognized and you will be rewarded for it.”

Jeanty currently leads all college football players with 1,031 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns in just five games, showcasing exceptional efficiency with an average of 10.9 yards per carry. He is well on his way to breaking Barry Sanders’ all-time single-season rushing record of 2,628 yards, which would require an increase in carries.

Jeanty’s dominance has propelled Boise State towards a potential College Football Playoff berth. The Broncos will face Hawaii on Saturday in a game crucial to their quest for a spot in the inaugural 12-team playoff.

The last non-quarterback to win the Heisman was Devonta Smith in 2020, highlighting the recent dominance of quarterbacks in the prestigious award. Jeanty’s ambition to break the running back drought and claim the Heisman trophy is making waves in the college football landscape.
