**Chennai, India:** A collision between the Mysore-Darbhanga Bagmati Express and a freight train near Kavaraipettai railway station in Tamil Nadu on Friday evening resulted in a fire and injured 19 passengers.
The incident occurred when the express train, traveling at 75 km/h, mistakenly entered a loop line instead of the main line and collided with a stationary freight train. One coach caught fire, and while the fire has been extinguished, the incident has disrupted train services in the region.
The injured passengers have been transported to a nearby hospital, while stranded passengers were taken to Ponneri by buses and then to Chennai Central by two EMU special trains. All passengers were provided food and water and are now on board a passenger special train to Darbhanga via Arakkonam, Renigunta, and Gudur. The special train departed at 4:45 AM on Saturday.
Following the accident, the Indian Railways has ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed his condolences and stated that the government is actively involved in rescue and relief efforts.
The Railway Board confirmed that there were no fatalities reported and that rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the site.
