**Mumbai, India:** Baba Siddiqui, a prominent NCP leader and former Maharashtra Minister, was shot dead in Mumbai on Saturday night. The incident took place near his son’s office in Bandra’s Khar Wadi area.
According to police, Siddiqui was leaving his office around 9:15 PM when three assailants, their faces covered with scarves, emerged from a car and opened fire. Siddiqui was shot three times, with one bullet hitting his chest and two hitting his abdomen. He was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Police have arrested two suspects, one from Uttar Pradesh and the other from Haryana, and are searching for a third. While the motive behind the attack remains unclear, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has assured that the perpetrators will face the law.
Siddiqui was known for his influence in Bollywood and played a significant role in resolving the long-standing feud between Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. The two stars, who had been estranged since a fight at Katrina Kaif’s birthday party in 2008, were reunited at Siddiqui’s Iftar party in 2013, where they reconciled.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the city and sparked concerns about law and order in Mumbai. Opposition leaders, including Aditya Thackeray and Priyanka Chaturvedi, have expressed their condolences to Siddiqui’s family and questioned the safety of citizens in the city.
Siddiqui, who was a Y-category security protectee, had reportedly informed authorities about threats to his life two weeks prior to the incident. He left the Congress Party in February this year and joined the NCP led by Ajit Pawar.
Siddiqui was a prominent figure in Mumbai’s political and social circles and is survived by his wife and son.
