Sun Oct 13 16:05:08 UTC 2024: ## Sinner Claims Shanghai Masters Title, Denying Djokovic 100th ATP Title

**SHANGHAI, CHINA -** Jannik Sinner, the current world No. 1, triumphed over Novak Djokovic in a thrilling final on Sunday to claim his third ATP Masters 1000 title of the season. The Italian secured a 7-6(4), 6-3 victory, marking his fourth win over the Serbian legend in eight encounters. Sinner’s victory also denied Djokovic his 100th career ATP title.

Djokovic dominated the early stages of the match, maintaining a strong serve and controlling the momentum. Sinner, however, turned the tide in the tiebreaker, capitalizing on a crucial break point to open a four-point lead. Though Djokovic fought back, unforced errors ultimately cost him the first set.

The second set saw Sinner’s confidence soar as he continued to press Djokovic. The Serbian’s serve, which had been rock solid in the first set, lost some accuracy, offering Sinner opportunities to break through. Djokovic, visibly deflated, struggled to maintain his composure, while Sinner played with increasing assurance.

Sinner’s victory capped off a phenomenal 2024 season, which saw him claim seven titles, including the Australian Open and US Open crowns. The 23-year-old Italian secured the ATP Year-End No. 1 ranking on Saturday after his semi-final win.

“It was a very tough match playing Novak, one of the toughest challenges we have,” said Sinner after the match. “I am very happy with how I handled the situation. He was serving great in the first set and I couldn’t find a way to break him. I played a very good breaker which gave me the confidence to start well in the second set.”
