**DU Professor G.N. Saibaba Passes Away After Heart Attack**
**New Delhi, October 28:** G.N. Saibaba, a former professor at Delhi University, passed away on Saturday night at the age of 57. He was undergoing treatment at NIMS Hospital in Hyderabad for post-operative complications following surgery for pancreatic stones. Saibaba, who was wheelchair-bound, was admitted to NIMS ten days ago due to deteriorating health. He suffered a heart attack on Saturday night around 8:00 PM and was declared dead by doctors at 8:30 PM.
Saibaba was convicted in 2017 by a Gadchiroli court in Maharashtra under UAPA and the Indian Penal Code along with five others. He and four others were sentenced to life imprisonment while one was given a ten-year sentence. Saibaba had appealed against the Gadchiroli court’s decision in the Bombay High Court.
**J&K Alliance Demands Restoration of Statehood in First Cabinet Meeting**
**Jammu, October 28:** A coalition of various parties and social groups in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday demanded that the National Conference-Congress alliance pass a resolution to restore the state’s status in its first cabinet meeting.
The All India Party United Morcha (APUM), following a meeting in Jammu at former MP Sheikh Abdul Rahman’s residence, demanded restoration of statehood, 200 units of free electricity, and the regularization of daily wage workers. The meeting was attended by several social activists, including Manish Sahni, the head of the state Shiv Sena (UBT).
**Badrinath Temple Closes on November 17th, Other Chardhams to Close Soon After**
**Badrinath, October 28:** The Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTMC) has announced the closing dates for the Chardham Yatra. Badrinath Temple will close for the winter on November 17th at 9:00 PM. Kedarnath and Yamunotri will close on November 3rd and Gangotri on November 2nd.
Rudranath will close on October 17th, Tungnath on November 4th, and Madhyamaheshwar on November 20th. Over 1.1 million pilgrims have visited Badrinath Dham and over 1.35 million have visited Kedarnath Dham this year. Approximately 3.8 million pilgrims have completed the Char Dham Yatra.
**Tension in Ratnagiri During RSS Procession, Two Cases Filed**
**Ratnagiri, October 28:** Tension erupted in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra during an RSS procession after members of a minority community raised slogans. According to Ratnagiri Police, two cases have been filed following the incident in the Konkan Nagar area on Friday night.
Police have identified five suspects and issued them notices. No arrests have been made yet. While there was no violence, several people came to the police station late on Friday night demanding an FIR. Cases have been registered and the investigation is underway.
**Seven Killed, Several Trapped in Gujarat Landslide During Underground Tank Excavation**
**Mehsana, October 28:** Seven laborers were killed on Saturday in a landslide at a construction site in Mehsana district, Gujarat. According to Mehsana SP Tarun Duggal, the incident occurred near Kadi, about 37 km from Mehsana.
Kadi Police officer Prahlad Singh Waghela said that the laborers were digging a pit for an underground tank at a factory in Jasalpur village when the loose soil collapsed, burying them alive. All the bodies have been recovered, and three to four laborers are still believed to be trapped. Rescue operations are ongoing.
**Jewelry Worth ₹10 Lakh Stolen from Devi Temple in Odisha’s Jajpur**
**Jajpur, October 28:** Thieves stole jewelry worth over ₹10 lakh from a Devi Durga temple in Odisha’s Jajpur. The incident occurred at Barundhei Temple in the Korei police station area on Saturday morning.
Police said that the priest and members of the temple committee found the jewelry missing and the temple gate open when they arrived at the temple around 3:00 AM. According to the complaint, the theft occurred around 2:00 AM. The stolen items included gold and silver ornaments like the crown, necklace, trident, earrings, and rings of Devi Durga and other deities. Police have launched an investigation and the rituals have been temporarily stopped.
**Supreme Court to Hear Shashi Tharoor’s Defamation Case Appeal on Monday**
**New Delhi, October 28:** The Supreme Court will hear Congress MP Shashi Tharoor’s plea against the Delhi High Court’s refusal to quash a defamation case filed against him for calling Prime Minister Modi a “scorpion sitting on a shivaling”.
Tharoor had approached the Supreme Court against the High Court’s August 29 order. The bench of Justices Rishikesh Roy and S.V.N. Bhatti will hear the plea on Monday, as per the October 14 listing.

**Ferozepur, October 28:** The BSF has shot down a drone that crossed the border into Punjab’s Ferozepur. The drone was attempting to smuggle heroin and a pistol from Pakistan. The forces recovered 500 grams of heroin, a pistol, and a magazine.

**Badaun, October 28:** A Bolero car rammed into two motorcycles on Friday night in Uttar Pradesh’s Badaun, killing two young men and seriously injuring another. The car driver fled the scene after the accident. Police have sent the bodies for postmortem and launched an investigation into the incident.
**One Arrested Nine Days After College Student Gangrape in Pune**
**Pune, October 28:** Pune Police arrested one suspect on Friday, nine days after a college student was gang-raped. The 21-year-old student was walking with a friend in the Bopdev Ghat area on October 3rd when the arrested suspect and two others allegedly gang-raped her. The assailants also beat the student’s friend with bamboo sticks and threatened him with a knife.
