Sun Oct 13 06:20:36 UTC 2024: ## AIMIM Chief Blames UAPA for Death of DU Professor G.N. Saibaba

**Hyderabad, October 13:** Asaduddin Owaisi, the president of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), has blamed the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for the death of former Delhi University Professor G.N. Saibaba. He claims that the law’s provision allowing prolonged imprisonment without evidence contributed to Saibaba’s demise.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday night, Owaisi expressed grief over the death of Saibaba and the murder of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Baba Siddiqui, stating, “Two deaths in one day is indeed horrifying.”

Saibaba, who had been acquitted in a case related to alleged Maoist links seven months ago, passed away at a government hospital in Hyderabad following complications after surgery on Saturday night.

“The death of Professor Saibaba is also extremely worrying,” Owaisi said. “His death is partly a consequence of the UAPA, which allows the police to keep you in jail for a long time without any evidence.”

In a separate incident on Saturday night, Siddiqui was shot dead by three assailants in Mumbai’s Bandra area. Owaisi strongly condemned Siddiqui’s murder, calling it “highly reprehensible” and a reflection of the deteriorating law and order situation in Maharashtra. He offered condolences to Siddiqui’s family, friends, and colleagues.
