Sat Oct 12 10:30:00 UTC 2024: ## Daylight Saving Time Ends This Weekend: Get Ready to “Fall Back”

This Sunday, November 3rd, at 2:00 AM local time, daylight saving time will end for the year, meaning we’ll “fall back” and gain an extra hour of sleep. While many Americans enjoy the extra daylight hours during the summer, the annual clock change can disrupt schedules for families and pets.

Daylight saving time, observed by nearly all U.S. states every March and November, aims to maximize daylight hours during different seasons. In November, we “fall back” to gain an hour of daylight in the mornings.

However, the push to end the twice-annual clock changes continues. The Sunshine Protection Act, which would make daylight saving time permanent, was passed unanimously by the Senate in 2022 but stalled in the House of Representatives and was not signed into law. A 2023 version of the act also failed to progress.

While most of the U.S. follows daylight saving time, there are exceptions. Hawaii, Arizona, and five U.S. territories, including the Navajo Nation, do not observe the time change.

With the end of daylight saving time approaching, it’s time to adjust your clocks and be prepared for the extra hour of sleep! And don’t forget to check your smoke detectors and other time-sensitive devices to ensure they are properly set.
