Rajinikanth’s latest action-thriller, “Vettaiyan,” has had a solid opening weekend at the box office, earning approximately Rs 30 crore in India on its first day. The film, which features Amitabh Bachchan in a prominent role, saw strong performances in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi, with a particularly impressive showing in its Tamil release.
Despite a successful debut, “Vettaiyan” falls short of the record-breaking opening weekend of “Jailer,” another Rajinikanth starrer, which brought in Rs 48.35 crore on its first day. However, “Vettaiyan” did outpace Rajinikanth’s 2021 film “Annaatthe,” which earned Rs 29.9 crore on its opening day.
“Vettaiyan” has been met with positive reviews from both Rajinikanth fans and general moviegoers, who praised the performances of Rajinikanth, Fahadh Faasil, and Amitabh Bachchan. The film, which tackles the relevant issue of edtech app scams, has also garnered positive reviews for its compelling storyline.
“Vettaiyan,” directed by TJ Gnanavel, tells the story of an encounter specialist tasked with solving a rape case and bringing the perpetrator to justice. The film, featuring a star-studded cast, including Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan, Rana Daggubati, Fahadh Faasil, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, and Dushara Vijayan, was released in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada across theatres worldwide on October 10.
The film’s streaming rights have been acquired by Amazon Prime Video, and it is expected to make a significant impact on the platform upon its release.
