Fri Oct 11 21:01:35 UTC 2024: ## Train Accident in Tamil Nadu: Derailed Express Train Catches Fire After Collision with Goods Train

**Chennai, India**: A major train accident occurred near Kavarapettai railway station in Tamil Nadu on Friday evening, leaving several passengers injured. The Darbhanga Express train collided with a stationary goods train, resulting in a derailment and a fire in two coaches.

According to railway sources, the Darbhanga Express collided with the rear end of the goods train, which was already on the track. The accident is suspected to have occurred due to poor visibility in the darkness.

“The Darbhanga Express train was travelling on the same track as the goods train. Due to the darkness, the loco pilot of the express train could not see the goods train and crashed into it. Around 12-13 coaches have derailed and two coaches have caught fire,” said a railway official.

The NDRF team has been deployed to the accident site, and rescue efforts are underway. The fire has been brought under control, and 10 injured passengers have been admitted to the hospital.

**Impact on Train Services:**

The accident has significantly disrupted train services in the Chennai-Gudur region. Three trains – Tiruchirapalli-Howrah Express, Ernakulam-Tatanagar Express, and Kakinada-Dhanbad Special Express – have been stopped in the area.

To accommodate passengers, railway officials are transporting them to Chennai Central via EMU trains. A new train has also been prepared in Chennai to transport passengers to Darbhanga and other destinations, with complimentary food and water provided.

**Helpline Numbers:**
