Sat Oct 12 07:20:00 UTC 2024: ## India Denies Substantive Discussion with Canada on Khalistani Issue at ASEAN Summit

**Vientiane, Laos:** India has firmly refuted claims made by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau regarding a discussion on the safety of Canadians during a brief encounter with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the ASEAN Summit in Laos.

According to government sources, the two leaders exchanged greetings but no substantive conversation took place. India maintains that it expects Canada to take decisive action against anti-India Khalistani activities on its soil, including those promoting violence, extremism, and terrorism.

The Indian government expressed concern over the growing nexus between these forces and organized crime, drug syndicates, and human trafficking, warning that it should be a concern for Canada as well.

Trudeau, however, acknowledged a brief exchange with Modi and emphasized the need for action to ensure the safety of Canadians and uphold the rule of law. He declined to elaborate on the content of the conversation.

The encounter comes almost a year after Trudeau accused India of involvement in the death of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Nijjar, who was granted Canadian citizenship. India has vehemently denied these allegations, calling them absurd and motivated.

Despite the tense situation, India stresses its commitment to relations with Canada, but asserts that these can only be repaired through concrete and verifiable action by the Canadian government against those engaged in anti-India activities.

The incident marks a new low in relations between the two countries, which have been strained since Trudeau’s accusations last September.
