**Budapest, Hungary** – Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance in their opening two Nations League matches and is aiming for more of the same when they face Hungary in Budapest on Friday.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Koeman praised his team’s strong performances, including a 5-2 victory over Bosnia and a 2-2 draw with Germany. He highlighted the depth, chance creation, transitions, and energy displayed by his players.
“I’ve shown the players what was good and why it was good,” Koeman said. “The football was good. We always had depth in our game, created many chances and the transitions were very good. I want us to keep that up. The energy was also good, and I saw that this week in training too.”
Despite facing injuries to key players like Nathan Ake and Teun Koopmeiners, Koeman is confident in his squad’s depth and expects fierce competition for places.
While Koeman acknowledged the challenge posed by Hungary, he expressed surprise at their recent dip in form after a strong showing in the previous Nations League.
“To be honest, I was quite surprised that Hungary had a good chance of reaching the final four of the last edition of the Nations League,” he said. “They still have many of the same players. I don’t understand why their recent results have not been as impressive, but we should not think that we are just easily going to win this.”
Koeman remained tight-lipped on his attacking plans, especially with Memphis Depay unavailable, but confirmed that both Joshua Zirkzee and Brian Brobbey are in contention for a starting role.
The Dutch will be looking to build on their positive start to the Nations League campaign when they face Hungary, before facing Germany in Munich on Monday.
