Fri Oct 11 23:03:04 UTC 2024: ## Bosnia’s Barbarez Suffers Home Defeat Against Germany
Zenica, Bosnia – Bosnia and Herzegovina’s head coach, Sergej Barbarez, failed to pull off a miracle on home soil in a 2-1 loss to Germany. Despite a valiant effort from the Dragons, goals from Deniz Undav secured the victory for the visitors.
The match was always going to be a tough ask for Barbarez, who took the reins of the national team in April after a long wait for a coaching opportunity. The former Bundesliga star faced his second home country, Germany, in a match he described as special. However, he was facing a daunting task against a more experienced and established German side, especially with limited coaching experience at the highest level.
Bosnia started brightly and nearly took the lead early on through Ivan Basic’s free kick. For the first 20 minutes, they managed to disrupt Germany’s rhythm. However, the visitors gradually gained control, with Florian Wirtz setting up Undav for the opening goal in the 29th minute.
Bosnia fought back, with Edin Demirovic hitting the crossbar just minutes later. Undav, however, doubled Germany’s lead before the break, leaving Bosnia facing an uphill battle.
The home side rallied in the second half, with Dzeko’s header bringing the crowd to their feet and momentarily re-igniting hope. Dario Saric’s long-range effort almost pulled them level but ultimately, Germany held on for a deserved win.
Despite the loss, the performance was encouraging for Barbarez, who has been tasked with turning around Bosnia’s fortunes. Their 2-1 defeat to Germany will likely not impact his long-term prospects with the team.
