**New Delhi:** The festival of Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, will be celebrated on Saturday, October 12, 2024. This festival marks the victory of good over evil, commemorating the slaying of the demon king Ravana by Lord Rama.

According to the Hindu calendar, the auspicious time for performing puja and rituals falls on the tenth day of the bright fortnight of Ashwin month. This year, the Dashami Tithi begins at 10:58 AM on October 12th and ends at 9:08 AM on October 13th.

**Auspicious timings for puja:**

* **Shravana Nakshatra:** This auspicious constellation begins at 5:25 AM on October 12th and ends at 4:27 AM on October 13th.
* **ShAstra, Aparajita & Shami Pujan:** The most auspicious time for these pujas falls between 2:02 PM and 2:48 PM, lasting for 46 minutes.
* **Ravana Dahan:** The most auspicious time for burning the effigy of Ravana is during the Pradosh Kaal, between 5:53 PM and 7:27 PM.

**Pujan Vidhi:**

1. Spread a red cloth on a platform.
2. Place statues of Lord Rama and Goddess Durga on it.
3. Create a Swastik symbol with yellow rice and place a small idol of Lord Ganesha there.
4. Establish the nine planets (Navagraha).
5. Offer fruits, flowers, and sweets as a bhog (offering) to the deities.
6. Donate to the needy as per your capacity.

**Significance of Dussehra:**

Dussehra is celebrated with two prominent stories. First, it commemorates Lord Rama’s victory over Ravana on the tenth day of Ashwin Shukla Paksha. Second, it celebrates Goddess Durga’s slaying of the demon Mahishasura, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil.
