Sat Oct 12 11:20:00 UTC 2024: ## Djokovic Battles Past Mensik to Reach Shanghai Masters Semifinals

**SHANGHAI, CHINA -** Novak Djokovic, the four-time Shanghai champion, overcame a tough first set to defeat Czech Jakub Mensik 6-7(4), 6-1, 6-4 and secure his place in the semi-finals of the Shanghai Masters.

The 37-year-old Serb, facing an opponent who was born in 2005, struggled early on against Mensik’s powerful serve. Despite breaking for a 5-4 lead in the first set, Djokovic allowed Mensik to fight back, ultimately losing the tiebreak.

However, Djokovic showcased his champion spirit in the second and third sets. He took advantage of Mensik’s unforced errors, maintaining a relentless assault with his forehand. The 24-time Grand Slam champion broke Mensik twice in the second set and once in the decider to secure a hard-fought victory.

Djokovic, seeking his record-extending fifth Shanghai title and first ATP Masters 1000 title since Paris last year, will now face world number seven Taylor Fritz in the semi-finals. Fritz defeated Belgian David Goffin 6-3, 6-4 in the other quarterfinal.

The other semi-final match will feature world number one Jannik Sinner against Czech Tomas Machac.
