**Sharjah, UAE:** Australia’s dominant run in the Women’s T20 World Cup faces a potential setback as key players Tayla Vlaeminck and Alyssa Healy picked up injuries in their victory against Pakistan.
Vlaeminck, who had just replaced Grace Harris in the Australian XI, left the field after landing awkwardly on her knee in the third over of the Pakistan innings. The fast bowler was later diagnosed with a dislocated shoulder.
Captain Alyssa Healy also sustained a foot injury during Australia’s run chase, despite scoring 37 runs off 23 balls. She was forced to leave the field while attempting a second run.
While Australia secured a comfortable nine-wicket victory against Pakistan, Head Coach Shelley Nitschke expressed concern over the injuries. “It’s pretty devastating, particularly for Taylor, who’s had a tough road back and was playing in her first World Cup in a while,” she said.
Both players will undergo further assessments within the next 24 hours, with their participation in the crucial clash against India on Sunday remaining uncertain.
Despite the injury woes, Australia remains in a strong position to qualify for the semifinals with a +2.786 net run rate after winning all their matches so far. The team is expected to rally around Vlaeminck and Healy, hoping for their swift recovery.
