**Wuhan, China** – Aryna Sabalenka, the US Open champion, has regained the top spot in the WTA rankings after defeating Yulia Putintseva in a thrilling match at the Wuhan Open. Sabalenka, who is undefeated in Wuhan, rallied from a set down to win 1-6, 6-4, 6-0 and secure a spot in the quarterfinals.

The Belarusian star’s victory sees her leapfrog Iga Swiatek, who is currently absent from the Asian swing due to personal reasons and fatigue. This win marks Sabalenka’s 14th consecutive victory in Wuhan, where she previously won the title in 2018 and 2019.

In other notable matches, Coco Gauff continued her winning streak with a dominant 6-4, 6-1 victory over Marta Kostyuk. The fourth-ranked American has now won eight matches in a row after winning the China Open last week, propelling her back into the top five in the rankings. She will next face Magda Linette, who upset eighth-seeded Daria Kasatkina.

The American contingent was further reduced as Jessica Pegula lost a tough match to Wang Xinyu, who won 6-3, 7-5, while Hailey Baptiste suffered a heavy defeat to Ekaterina Alexandrova.

Other notable winners include Zheng Qinwen, who rallied from a set down to beat Leylah Fernandez, and Jasmine Paolini, who defeated Erika Andreeva. The Wuhan Open continues with the quarterfinals on Friday.
