**New Delhi:** In a move that has sparked a political controversy, Delhi’s newly appointed Chief Minister Atishi has been officially assigned the 6 Flagstaff Road Bungalow, the official residence of the Chief Minister. The Public Works Department (PWD) has officially handed over the bungalow to Atishi, who was previously forced to vacate the residence after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) claimed she was wrongfully evicted.
The AAP, led by Arvind Kejriwal, has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of orchestrating the forced eviction during the Navratri festival, highlighting the political tension surrounding the bungalow. AAP leader Sanjay Singh shared images on X of Atishi signing documents amidst packed boxes, claiming that the BJP was trying to undermine Atishi’s commitment to serving the people of Delhi.
However, the BJP has refuted the AAP’s allegations, asserting that the 6 Flagstaff Road bungalow is not the official residence of the Delhi Chief Minister. Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva stated that the bungalow is simply one of several government residences similar to the one Arvind Kejriwal used during his tenure as Chief Minister. He challenged the AAP government to provide proof that the 6 Flagstaff Road bungalow was designated as the official residence.
Sachdeva clarified that they have no objections to Atishi residing in the bungalow, but it must be done according to the rules. Vijender Gupta, the Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, further accused Atishi of playing the victim card, labelling the pictures of her amidst packed boxes as a “drama” orchestrated by the AAP.
The blame game has been amplified with both the AAP and BJP accusing each other of exploiting the situation for political gain. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) and the Lieutenant Governor’s office remain entangled in the escalating controversy. The AAP asserts that Kejriwal vacated the bungalow properly and handed over the keys to Atishi, while the BJP maintains that the bungalow is merely a government residence and not the designated official residence for the Chief Minister.
The situation continues to escalate, adding another layer of tension to the already politically charged atmosphere in Delhi.
