**(Multan, Pakistan) -** Pakistan’s star legspinner Abrar Ahmed is currently hospitalized in Multan after falling ill during the first Test against England. He was ruled out of the fourth day’s play after experiencing a high fever and body aches on Thursday morning.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed the news, stating that Ahmed underwent several tests and an update on his availability will be released soon. The news comes as a major blow to Pakistan, who are already trailing England by 115 runs in the match.
Abrar, who bowled 31 overs on the third day, was targeted heavily by the English batsmen. His figures read 35-0-174-0, the only Pakistani bowler to fail to take a wicket in the first innings.
The hosts, who were reeling at 82/6 at one point, ended the fourth day at 152/6, thanks to a fighting partnership between Salman Ali Agha and Aamer Jamal.
Ahmed’s illness adds to Pakistan’s woes, especially with the match hanging in the balance. It remains to be seen whether he will be able to bat on the final day.
This comes after a strong debut series for Abrar against England two years ago, where he claimed 11 wickets. The PCB is yet to provide an update on his fitness and whether he will be able to participate in the final day’s play.
