**Chennai, India -** A passenger train traveling from Mysuru to Darbhanga derailed after colliding with a stationary goods train near Thiruvallur, Tamil Nadu, on Friday evening. According to Southern Railway officials, six coaches of the Mysore-Darbhanga Express (Train No. 12578) were derailed at around 8:30 pm.

While there were no fatalities reported, some passengers sustained injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the train was approaching Kavaripettai station at a speed of 109 kmph when it entered a loop line and collided with the stationary goods train. The loco pilot had begun reducing the train’s speed to the required 90 kmph before the incident.

Following the accident, train services on the Ponneri-Kavaripettai section have been disrupted. Railway officials are working to clear the tracks and restore train operations.

Alternative arrangements are being made to transport passengers who were on the derailed train.
