Fri Oct 11 16:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Former LSU Football Star Sues University and Hospital Over Brain Tumor Treatment

**BATON ROUGE, LA** – Former LSU defensive back Greg Brooks Jr. is suing the university and Our Lady of the Lake hospital, alleging negligence in their handling of a career-ending brain tumor. The lawsuit, obtained by Yahoo Sports, claims Brooks was left permanently disabled after surgery to remove the tumor.

Brooks alleges that LSU’s coaching staff pressured him to participate in practice despite experiencing various symptoms, implying he could lose his starting role if he didn’t. The lawsuit further claims that LSU’s training staff initially refused to recommend Brooks to a neurological specialist.

As a result of the alleged negligence, Brooks is now unable to walk and struggles to speak. His attorneys anticipate he will require lifelong care.

LSU, while unable to comment on ongoing litigation, expressed their support for Brooks in a statement: “Greg Brooks remains in our thoughts and prayers as he continues to work through the rehabilitation process.” The university also defended its partnership with Our Lady of the Lake, stating the hospital “has provided exceptional medical care for our student-athletes in all of our sports.”

Our Lady of the Lake, in its own statement, offered prayers for Brooks’ continued recovery. Due to patient privacy and pending litigation, the hospital declined to comment specifically on Brooks’ case. However, they emphasized the expertise of their neurosurgical team, stating it is “among the most experienced in Louisiana” and strives to provide “the best opportunity for a positive outcome.”

Brooks played for Arkansas from 2019-21 before transferring to LSU in 2022. He showed promise for the Tigers, but his career was tragically cut short by the discovery of the tumor after only two games in the 2023 season.
