Fri Oct 11 08:30:00 UTC 2024: ## David Muir Braves Hurricane Milton for GMA, Robin Roberts Offers Support from Home

ABC News anchor David Muir, best known for his roles on “World News Tonight” and “20/20,” stepped outside his usual reporting zone to join the Good Morning America team on Thursday. Muir, along with fellow anchors George Stephanopoulos, Michael Strahan, and Rebecca Jarvis, reported live from Florida, braving the aftermath of Hurricane Milton.

Muir, clad in an ABC News rain jacket, appeared noticeably different from his usual suited appearance at the news desk as he detailed the devastating impact of the storm. Fans on social media expressed concern for the GMA team in Florida, urging them to stay safe.

Meanwhile, Robin Roberts, a staple of the GMA team, was absent from the show. Roberts took to social media to explain her absence, sharing a video from home and explaining that she was attending a dear friend’s father’s homegoing service in Texas. She expressed her sympathy for those affected by the hurricane, acknowledging the difficult time for many who lost their homes or loved ones.

Muir, known for his passion for storytelling and delivering news with compassion, has a long and decorated career in journalism. He recently shared advice he received early in his career, emphasizing the importance of being out in the field and getting the story.

“A veteran reporter sitting in front of me turned around and said, ‘you know, in order to get the story, you just have to go out there. Just go get it,’” Muir recalled. He also highlighted the importance of listening in journalism, saying, “A lot of reporting is just listening. People have very common fears and concerns, whether they have a family, taxes, education, crime, safety at the borders. We have Israel and Hamas. It’s an overwhelming time. But no matter what the story is, I think one of the most important attributes of a reporter who is going to connect with the audience, is someone who truly listens.”
