Fri Oct 11 16:26:10 UTC 2024: ## Air India Express Flight Makes Safe Landing After Technical Issue
An Air India Express flight bound for Sharjah from Trichy experienced a technical issue shortly after takeoff on Friday evening, causing it to circle in the sky for over two hours before safely landing.
The flight, carrying 141 passengers, departed at 5:30 pm but encountered a problem with its landing gear, which failed to retract. Following established protocol, the aircraft circled the airspace for over two hours to burn off fuel before attempting a landing.
Emergency response teams were on standby at Trichy airport, including 20 ambulances and fire services. Despite the situation, Air India Express officials maintain that no emergency was declared by the crew. The airline has attributed the prolonged circling to an “abundant precaution” taken to reduce weight and fuel before landing.
A spokesperson for Air India Express emphasized that safety was paramount in their operations and that the cause of the technical snag will be thoroughly investigated. Passengers will be flown to Sharjah on an alternative aircraft.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) was involved in monitoring the situation, and the airport was fully prepared to handle the emergency.
Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi expressed his gratitude to the flight crew for their safe landing, praising their courage and professionalism. He also acknowledged the efforts of emergency services for ensuring the well-being of all on board.
