Fri Oct 11 17:02:32 UTC 2024: ## Air India Express Flight Makes Emergency Landing at Trichy Airport After Hydraulic Failure

**Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu:** An Air India Express flight carrying 140 passengers made an emergency landing at Tiruchirappalli airport on Friday evening after experiencing a hydraulic failure mid-air. The flight, en route from Trichy to Sharjah, had taken off at 5:43 pm but reported the technical snag shortly after.

The pilot alerted air traffic control about the hydraulic failure, which affects the plane’s landing gear, brakes, and flaps. The flight circled over Trichy airspace for some time while airport authorities prepared for a belly landing, a procedure where the aircraft lands without using its landing gear.

While fuel dumping was initially considered to lighten the plane, it was ultimately not opted for due to the flight’s proximity to residential areas. Ambulances and rescue teams were on standby at the airport as a precautionary measure.

Despite the initial concern, the landing gear eventually deployed successfully, allowing the plane to land normally. Videos from the airport showed passengers cheering as the flight touched down safely.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation confirmed the safe landing and stated that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) was monitoring the situation.

Chief Minister MK Stalin lauded the captain and crew for their skillful handling of the emergency landing, commending their swift response and ensuring the safety of all passengers. He also instructed officials to provide necessary support and assistance to the passengers.
