**Dubai, October 11 (PTI):** Defending champions Australia secured a resounding victory over Pakistan in their Group A match of the Women’s T20 World Cup on Friday, winning by nine wickets with nine overs to spare.

The victory, Australia’s third consecutive win, cemented their position as strong contenders for the semi-finals. The team now holds six points.

Off-spinner Ashleigh Gardner shone for Australia, claiming four wickets for just 21 runs. Her impressive performance was complimented by two wickets each from Annabel Sutherland and Georgia Wareham, who helped restrict Pakistan to a paltry 82 runs in 19.5 overs.

Australia achieved their target in just 11 overs, losing only one wicket. Beth Mooney contributed 15 runs, while Alyssa Perry remained unbeaten on 22. Captain Alyssa Healy, however, retired hurt on 37, raising concerns for the team.

Struggling with injuries, Pakistan saw only four batters reach double figures. Alia Riaz topped the scorecard with 26 runs. The Australian bowlers maintained a tight grip on the game, keeping Pakistan under constant pressure and preventing them from building any momentum.

Pakistan’s batting performance was hampered by a slow start and a series of wickets at regular intervals. Only Sidra Ameen (12 runs), Nida Dar (10 runs), and Iram Javed (12 runs) managed to reach double figures.

Regular captain Fatima Sana returned to Karachi due to her father’s passing, while Diana Baig remains sidelined with an injury from the previous match. The match marked the tournament debut for Sadaf Shamas and Iram Javed for Pakistan.
